Whitney did not have much musical training. Her mother worked as a choir minister at New Home Baptist Church, where Whitney got her start at singing when she was around eleven. She also sang backup for some musicians, such as Chaka Khan, and Lou Rawls. She went to school at Mount Saint Dominic Academy in high school, and graduated.
